Marc Burchanowski
Baseball & softball instruction

Marc Burchanowski

Marc Burchanowski (1995–98) was an impact player and elevated the baseball program at Penn State Behrend during his four years as a starting catcher and four more as an assistant coach. He enriched the program by providing a new level of toughness to the team and unparalleled leadership for the Behrend Lions and Head Coach Paul Benim.

Burchanowski was revered for his strong arm, while helping pitchers excel from the bump. As a sophomore, he guided the program to its highest win total as an NCAA Division III school and then there was more to come.

Burchanowski was previewed by Collegiate Baseball as a Player to Watch. He did not disappoint. As a junior and senior he was chosen to guide the program as its team captain and was then picked as the team MVP. In 1997–98 he was named Behrend’s Male Athlete of the Year.

During his stellar senior year, Burchanowski led the blue and white to the school record for wins with 23. He posted a .318 average with 27 RBIs, the third most in a single season. In addition, Burchanowski was named to the first-ever AMCC All-Conference baseball team and received All-Tournament Honors in Maryville, TN.

Burchanowski, a lifetime .321 hitter, finished his career ranking second in games played with 117, third in RBIs (69) and runs scored, fourth in doubles, steals (32) and hits (106). He was elected to the Behrend Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008.

Following four years of coaching at Penn State Behrend, Burchanowski helped establish a winning tradition within the baseball program at North East High School. Serving as a coach for six seasons (two years as an assistant and four as head coach), he helped guide the maroon and gold to their most successful stretch in school history with an overall record of 86–34 (.716 winning percentage).

In his six seasons, North East made the District 10 playoffs five times, had two District 10 runner-up finishes, and won three Region Championships. The program’s 19 wins in 2005 and 18 wins in 2008 still rank first and second all time.

Burchanowski, a Franklin High graduate, currently teaches science in the Fort LeBoeuf School District.

Brooklynn Cipalla
Softball · Varsity & travel player

Brooklynn Cipalla

Hi! I’m Brooklynn Cipalla, a junior at Harbor Creek High School. Softball has been a huge part of my life since I first stepped onto the field at seven years old. I’ve spent the last decade falling in love with the game, and that hard work really paid off my freshman year when I got to live out every athlete’s dream—hitting the walk-off that won our team the State Championship with my older sister for our first and last season playing together.

I’m a versatile player who feels right at home in both the outfield and the middle infield. I’ve started and lettered on my varsity team every year since freshman year, and I currently play travel for Athletics Gold Tamborra/Hamilton out of Atlanta, GA.

For me, being an athlete is about more than just what happens between the lines. I’m a big believer in giving back to the community that supports me, and I try to bring that same leadership and heart to my teammates. My goal is to keep this journey going and play at the college level, where I can continue to grow as a player and a person.
